A world-first multi-omics resource across 20,000 deeply clinically characterised participants.
Transforming mental health research from symptom-based approaches towards biologically informed discovery, stratification and treatment development, in partnership with people with lived experience, the NHS and industry.
In severe depression, led from King’s College London, building on the GLAD (Genetic Links to Anxiety and Depression) Study (opens in a new tab). In psychosis, led from Cardiff University’s Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics (opens in a new tab) with the Universities of Cambridge and Edinburgh, which also leads multi-omic data generation. Together: biological and clinical data at unprecedented depth.

Primary focus
- Building the world’s largest nationally representative mental health multi-omics dataset across psychosis and severe depression, linked to clinical phenotypes and health record data, while creating sustainable NHS biosampling infrastructure.

- How do we establish a nationally representative, trial-ready UK multi-omics cohort in severe mental illness?

How this differs from other infrastructure
- MHG Omics creates new biological research resources through the collection and analysis of genomic, epigenomic, proteomic and metabolomic data. It also builds NHS biosampling infrastructure and develops multi-omics cohorts designed to support biomarker discovery, precision psychiatry, AI-driven research and future stratified trials.
